How do plant cells survive extreme dehydration?

Our group studies the evolutionary and molecular mechanisms that enable plant cells to survive extreme dehydration, a remarkable ability known as desiccation tolerance. Our research aims to advance fundamental understanding of "life without water" and to translate this knowledge to improve plant conservation and resilience in water-limited environments, by combining physiology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics approaches.

We are part of the Laboratory of Plant Physiology and the Wageningen Seed Science Centre of Wageningen University & Research in The Netherlands.
